Eating well in college can be a challenge.  Consider this:

  • 59% of college students report their diet "deteriorated" once entering college
  • Weight gain during college is often the impetus for significant weight gain later in life
  • Risk factors for chronic diseases are occurring more frequently in college-aged populations as a result of unhealthy lifestyle behaviors
  • Poor diet has also been shown to have a negative impact on energy levels, concentration, retention of information, and overall academic performance
  • 80% of college students report eating fast food within the past month

Most people already know that eating at home is usually a healthier alternative to eating out. Unfortunately, our busy lifestyles don’t always make it possible to eat at home. To help you make better decisions when eating at the Student Center, look for the paw print on the menu.

A Saluki Stop sign is placed next to food items that are the least healthy selections. Compare these to the Saluki Select food items. If you choose to eat this item, try to make healthier food selections at other meals during the day.

The Saluki Select program is in collaboration with the SIUC Student Center. For more infomation on the program, contact Lynn Gill at 536-4441.
